SSEN Transmission are pleased to be hosting a public event regarding the proposed upgrade to the existing Fort Augustus substation, located near Auchterawe.
This proposal forms part of the wider Beauly – Denny 400kV upgrade project. Extensive system studies completed to inform the Electricity System Operator’s (ESO) ‘Pathway to 2030 Holistic Network Design’ which confirmed the requirement for the second circuit on the existing Beauly- Denny overhead line (OHL) being upgraded from 275kV to 400kV, to accommodate new renewable energy generators expected to connect to the transmission network in coming years. The upgrade of the second circuit will drive the requirement for modifications along the existing OHL, including the Fort Augustus substation upgrade.
As community councillors for Fort Augustus and the surrounding area, I am writing to notify you of this upcoming event.
Following our initial consultation event in November 2023 and feedback period which closed on 11 January 2024, we are holding this face to face drop-in event to present our final proposed substation extension design, which has been informed by stakeholder feedback. We will also present our responses to feedback received as part of the statutory Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) which is required for major planning applications.
Following this event, we will be seeking final comments and feedback from members of the public, statutory consultees and other key stakeholders regarding our proposals until 29 February 2024.
If you are unable to attend the public event, all the material that will be on display will be available to be downloaded from the project documents section of the project webpage from 22 February.
The public notice we will be promoting can be found HERE. Over 1,000 properties within a ten-mile radius of the substation will receive this notice via post, and the event will also be advertised via our website, social media, and local newspapers.
